Former Boston Red Sox Pitcher Curt Schilling Sells Bloody Sock
With all the celebrity items on sale online these days, former Boston Red Sox pitcher, Curt Schilling has given sport memorabilia new meaning. As his video game company goes bankrupt, Schilling has decided to earn some extra cash by selling the bloody sock he wore during the 2004 World Series. The blood stained sock will be sold via Heritage Auctions with online sales beginning somewhere around February 4th. Live bidding begins in New York City on February 23rd. Where has the sock been all these years? It was on loan and displayed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. It has since made its way to the Heritage Auctions Dallas headquarters and may bring in a minimum of $100,000. Schilling was enticed to move his company, 38 Studios, to Rhode Island from Massachusetts with a $75 million loan guarantee. Despite the loan, the company later went bankrupt. Schilling personally guaranteed the loans for the business. It is also reported that the state will now be responsible for nearly $100 million related to the deal.
