Indonesian Police Conducts More Raids
The latest reports from Indonesia inform the public that the Indonesian police raided and busted an online gambling ring, on which occasion it arrested nine locals and seized some Rp 1 billion (US$103,600). According to police spokesman, Senior Commissioner Rikwanto, the illegal business that operated in Jakarta and Surakarta, Central Java was operating since 2010 and saw a daily income of Rp 30 million to Rp 50 million. “The police traced the account used and found that funds had been transferred to an account in Surakarta,” Rikwanto said. “In Surakarta, the suspects could reap up to Rp 300 million a day from the business.” He also specified that the suspects were involved with togel (an illegal lottery) and were connected to a bookie in Singapore. Other suspects are still sought, he said, adding that the police found 150 additional bank accounts that had made suspicious transactions to the source account. “We believe that some of them are the gamblers, but we are still tracing them. In the meantime, we have blocked all the accounts,” he said. The two sites through which betting was facilitated are ibcbet and sbobet, both running on .com domains. The police have already requested the Communications and Information Ministry to ISP block the sites. The persons accused face up to 10 years of prison if convicted.
