Jacksonville Jaguars Fire Coach Mike Mularkey
After one season of coaching the team, the Jacksonville Jaguars fired Mike Mularkey on Thursday. The decision comes as no surprise as we've seen the worst season of in franchise history under his reign. New general manager David Caldwell began the new year with a fresh start after announcing the decision to let Mularkey go. He's now on a mission to find a replacement and get the Jaguars back on the right track. ''For that to happen as seamlessly as we want, and as quickly as our fans deserve, I feel it is in everyone's best interests for an immediate and clean restart,'' Caldwell said. Mularkey is the 8th head coach to be fired since the close of the regular season. Owner Shad Khan severed ties with general manager Gene Smith last week and gave Mularkey's assistants notice to begin looking for other employment opportunities. Khan made the decision to take on Mularkey but Smith directed the coaching search in January 2012 that began and finished with the former Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator. ''Mike Mularkey is leaving our organization with my utmost respect,'' Khan said. ''Mike gave the Jaguars everything he had on and off the field, and his efforts as our head coach will always be appreciated.''
