The 2013 PGA Tour season begins in Hawaii on January 4th with a total of 30 players in the field for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

Steve Stricker, of Wisconsin, is the only winner of a prior event playing this week and facing some strong competition.

Champs Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson will both be there. Watson participated the last two years and finishing in 18th place. Simpson took 3rd at Kapalua in 2012.

In the last two years we saw some injuries with Lucas Glover who sprained his knee while paddle boarding and last year Geoff Ogilvy encountered sharp coral and cut his finger.

This season will be shorted in comparison to the Fall Series that will start in October for the 2013-14 season. As a result there will be will be seven fewer tournament events for the shortened season.

Live coverage of the event will be broadcast on the Golf Channel from Friday to Monday. NBC will also broadcast on Sunday. The final round on Monday is scheduled to complete at 8pm EST.

Hawaii will also host next week's leg of The PGA Tour for the Sony Open.
