Capital One Cup: Swansea advance to last four
Swansea City booked their place in the Capital One Cup semi finals after a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday. The only goal of the match was scored with nine minutes remaining as Seb Hines headed a Jonathan De Guzman corner past his own goalkeeper. Swansea reach the last four of the competition for the first time in their history alongside Bradford, who produced the upset against Arsenal on Tuesday night, and Aston Villa, while Chelsea meet Leeds in the last quarter-final clash next week. Championship side Middlesbrough did their best to match their opponents throughout the game but both sides lacked a sharp attacking edge. Grant Leadbitter was the first player to create a decent chance as he went close for Boro with a 21st-minute effort that was denied by goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel. The Swansea galie then kept out another Leadbitter effort as the first half ended 0-0. Swansea boss Michael Laudrup made his first change just 10 minutes after half time when he sent on Luke Moore to replace Itay Shechter. Moore was quite active before Laudrup made a second switch, with Ki Sung-yueng going on for Wayne Routledge. Swansea started to put a bit more pressure on their opponents and went very close on 75 minutes when De Guzman hit a good free kick and which goalie Jason Steele diverted on to the crossbar. The pressure was getting too much for Boro to handle and Swansea's efforts were rewarded when Hines diverted the ball into his own net. Swansea are now just behind Chelsea as favourites to claim the Capital One Cup this season, according to Bet365: Chelsea are priced at 4/5 while Swansea are at 10/3.
