Bwin Sees Its Argentinian License Revoked
bwin Argentina S.A.'s license to operate has reportedly been revoked by the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (IPLyC) of Misiones, one of the 23 provinces of Argentina, which cited "breach of contract" as a reason for revocation and informed players in a notification on its website that any further wagers on the Argentinian bwin site will be considered illegal gaming. Explaining the decision, Eduardo Torres of IPLyC said the body revoked the licenses of both bwin and online sportsbook Mil Jugadas SRL were revoked because the operators failed to "mirror" all play on an IPLyC server for monitoring purposes. "What was replicated wasn't clear, was not well understood, the numbers did not balance, there were chances that some bets went directly to their European central system and did not pass through our system. They were given the necessary time to bring explanations and, as they have not given satisfactory answers, the licence was withdrawn,” said Torres, adding: “The company did not comply; the only province that has licenses for Internet games is Misiones. And today, the fact that online communication technology is not recognized for this kind of games make many players able to gamble without having the corresponding social responsibility. That bettors are the proper age, that they have the security of receiving their winnings and basically that the state receives taxes for the bets." For the time being, both websites are operating as usual and carrying the IPLyC licencing logo, which was reportedly ordered to be withdrawn from the websites.
