Update: German Treaty Accepted by Another Lander
A report came this week from Germany that the State of North Rhine-Westphalia has adopted and decided to join the German State Treaty on Online Gaming which allows for legalised sports betting but not online poker, despite the fact that it is in controversy with the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) which deems it illegal under European Union Law. "This will create an attractive alternative offer to illegal online poker and online casino games," assessed Interior Minister Ralf Jäger. It is expected that North Rhine-Westphalia will soon be followed by Schleswig-Holstein, a lander known for its formerly more liberal approach to online gambling and a state that awarded 12 sportsbetting licenses this year.
