NFL Honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month With Pink Penalty Flags
Pink penalty flags will hit the football field on Sunday during the Dolphins vs. Jets game. On Wednesday the NFL announced that officials will be using Commissioner Roger Goodell after Commissioner Roger Goodell received a letter from an 11-year-old suggesting it in honor of breast cancer awareness month. We've seen plenty of pink on officials, coaches and players but this will be a first. The 5th grader, Dante Cano, from Marlboro, N.J., was inspired by the pink official whistles, cleats and caps and suggested pink penalty flags be introduced this October. The NFL took his advice and ran with it. Cano was invited along with his family to attend the game at the MetLife Stadium where they will proudly present the pink flags to the officials before kickoff. ''Dante had a great idea and I am looking forward to meeting with him on Sunday to put it into action,'' Goodell said. ''Sometimes the simplest ideas can be the best. I applaud Dante for sending in his recommendation.''
