Shohei Otani in Talks With Several MLB Teams
A Japanese high school pitcher with a fastball between 99 and 100 mph has plans to become a Major League Baseball player. Shohei Otani, 18, has dreams of entering the MLB draft rather than going pro in Japan. Scouts from a number of major league teams have had their eye on Otani. These pro teams include the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers. Representatives from each team have met with Otani in Japan and even the Baltimore Orioles may be interested in the right-hander. Otani said ''I think I will start in the minor leagues but I want to challenge in the majors. It's been my dream since entering high school." Should he sign with a MLB teams, he'll become the first potential top draft pick to move from a Japanese high school to the United States.
