Mercer County, Pennsylvania DA Demands Online Sweepstakes to Stop Operating
With a serious voice, the Mercer County, Pennsylvania District Attorney Robert G. Kochems warned online sweepstakes parlours in the area that they must stop operating by next week – otherwise they'd be breaking the state law. He was reported to write: “I will direct law enforcement authorities to begin prosecuting violations of the law beginning October 22. This gives you time to give notice to your employees and to see if a new stay of the law is agreed to.” Pennsylvania seems to be a generally unfriendly place for the sweepstakes operators, judging by a recent ruling by the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania's Judge Robert D. Mariani who denied a motion for a restraining order and preliminary injunction filed by an operator of the machines in Luzerne County. This way he supported and applied a law signed by Gov. Tom Corbett a few months back to close legal loopholes exploited by sweepstakes operators.
