Positive Drug Screening Jeopardizes Garcia/Morales Boxing Match

Defending his World Boxing Association and World Boxing Council junior-welterweight belts, Danny Garcia awaits the results of Erik Morales' drug screening. The results could jeopardize their upcoming boxing match.

Morales, 36, took a drug test on October 3rd and tested positive for clenbuterol which is used for the purpose of weight loss.

In March, Morales lost his WBC belt for not making weight giving the first fight between the two to Garcia.

Additional samples were collected from Morales on October 10th and even this week. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency plans to have them analyzed by Friday evening or early Saturday.

'They know there is urgency,' promoter Richard Schaefer said. 'The commission and Garcia's team will then decide if the fight is on. Team Garcia has to be confident this is not a steroid that is enhancing Morales' performance.'

Schaefer says that the levels of clenbuterol found in Morales' system were so minimal that the positive result could have been caused by food contamination.

The Barclays fight card will be broadcasted on Showtime and includes three world title fights.

Paulie Malignaggi of Brooklyn will defend his WBA welterweight belt against Pablo Cesar Cano.

Randall Bailey will defend his International Boxing Federation title against Devon Alexander.

Peter 'Kid Chocolate' Quillin will go for the World Boxing Organization middleweight title against Hassan N'Dam.
