Roger Federer secures a new record at Shanghai Masters
Roger Federer sealed a record 300th week as world number one by beating Stanislas Wawrinka 4-6 7-6 6-0 at the Shanghai Masters. The 17-time Grand Slam winner fought back from a set down to defeat Swiss compatriot Wawrinka and reach the quarter-finals, an achievement that guarantees the top spot in the world rankings for at least another week. Federer said: "It's pretty incredible. Probably one of my biggest accomplishments. I'm very proud of that record, no doubt about it." The 31-year old Swiss player now faces Croatian Marin Cilic in the last eight. Wawrinka, aged 27, made the better start in China, with a break of serve in the seventh game which earned him the first set. Federer was given a scare early in the second set but survived tp level the match on a tie-break. And then Federer turned on the style as Wawrinka failed to win another game in the third set. "It's obviously an amazing number and I never thought of anything like this when I was a little kid," Federer added. Roger Federer is a firm favourite for the quarter final clash with Marin Cilic, as Bet365 offer odds of 1/10 for a Federer win and 6/1 for Cilic to win.
