After announcements that it will introduce a limited form of "on premises" e-gambling in order to help pay for a new Minnesota Vikings football stadium and assist local charities, Minnesota was true to its word.
Based on the idea to introduce a limited and tightly controlled form of betting on licensed premises by "lending" iPads to punters who are visiting the premises, thus enabling them to use these to place wagers, Minnesota implemented the Las Vegas-based Acres 4.0 system, the brainchild of a reputable gambling industry inventor John Acres and the subject of some 70 patents, in several establishments.
Acres 4.0 is a proprietary central server-based system using secured wireless, through which player can simply access entertainment services. It is licensed by the Minnesota Gambling Control Board, and it has been specified that the Minnesota network is designed to operate with 25,000 electronic pull-tab terminals.
The system will be distributed in Minnesota exclusively through Express Games MN, Inc.
Regarding his new development, Acres said: "It's no secret the gaming industry must change. Our company is again leading that change. Five years ago, I recognized the gambling industry had outgrown its traditional player base and that most non-gambling consumers weren't satisfied with traditional gambling games or experiences."
