Update: Extension Granted for Applications for German Sports Betting Licenses
Waiting for the new Government of the state of Schleswig-Holstein to repeal the state's more liberal gambling act and join the new German Intrastate Treaty on Gambling, which entered into force on July 1, the German authorities have extended the deadline of September 4, 2012 for the application for the twenty available German sportsbetting licenses until September 12, 2012. Based on the new ITG, 20 licenses for online sports betting can be granted to private operators, and it has been added in the law firm Olswang's announcement of the extension that the Ministry of the Interior of the State of Hesse has already begun the process of issuing them. Twelve sportsbetting licenses have already been awarded by Schlesswig Holstein, and according to Olswang, there are currently another 44 applications for a Schleswig-Holstein licence pending: 22 for sports betting and 22 for online casino games.
