'Dispatches' program causes a fuss
After the Channel 4 'Dispatches' television program was broadcast this week, working on the theme of flourishing Fixed Odds Betting Terminals in high street betting shops, a number of religious publications felt the need to have their try at punting Gambling Watch UK, an independent activist group whose goal is to question the present policy of support for the expansion of gambling in the UK and to propose alternative policies.
It appears that the Dispatches program fulfilled its purpose and raised spirits regarding the expansion of UK gambling which it opined has "...exposed poor communities in particular to businesses that take many thousands of pounds out of the local economy every day."
It has been reported that apart from the remorse expressed by Labour Deputy Leader Harriet Harman regarding her party's earlier gambling industry decisions, the Labour politicians have been warned by organizations such as Quakers, Methodists, Salvation Army, secular addiction groups, Ekklesia and many others, who stated: "But they weren't listening. Nor is the Coalition government at the moment, it seems."
