Paddy Power Ad Scrutinized Again
UK ASA adjudicates after Kidney Foundation lodges complaints Once again Paddy Power advertisement found itself supervised by the UK Advertising Standards Authority which found in favor of the bookmaker this time around. It all started when the radio ad made ironic references to the well-known phrase "I'd give my right arm..." instead introducing a fictional character named Jack Cooper who wrote on the Paddy Power Facebook wall: "I'll give you anything for a decent offer Paddy!" We hear you Jack! Anything eh? Well, just chuck us a kidney and in return we'll give you ... this beauty for the golf". The Kidney Wales Foundation and 26 members of the public submitted the complaint against the ad for being offensive and likely to cause distress, in particular to kidney dialysis patients, transplant patients and their loved ones. However, the ASA believes the ad would be taken in the spirit in which it came across as irreverent and light-hearted.
