Steven Pienaar has completed a £4.5m move back to Everton, jusr 18 months after joining Tottenham for a reported £3m. The South African international, now 30 years old, has signed a four-year deal after returning to Goodison on loan in January.
"It took a few weeks to sort out but I am delighted to be back and excited to play for Everton," Pienaar said. "There was no doubt in my mind that I would be back here. At the end of the season I told the manager how I felt and I am happy now it is all done."
Pienaar had just five Premier League matches for Spurs before his loan move back to Everton where he played 14 games before the end of the season. Everton manager David Moyes was eager to bolster his attacking options after losing Tim Cahill, who joined New York Red Bulls last week.
Pienaar joined Everton from German club Borussia Dortmund back in 2007 and spent three-and-a-half seasons at Goodison Park before leaving for Tottenham in January 2011. He was raised in his homeland at Ajax Cape Town, a feeder club to Ajax Amsterdam, which he joined in 2001. He played 104 league games for Everton, scoring 9 goals, before moving to Tottenham. He had just 10 league appearances and no goals in 18 months with the Spurs.
