Investigation into Irish Olympic Team’s Suspicious Betting Continues
Irish sportsman in question identified as sailor Peter O'Leary After the furor around the bets placed by one of the Olympic Irish sportsmen on various events, including one where he participated at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the name of the person in question finally became public. It's yachtsman Peter O'Leary, who apparently hadn't done anything wrong when he placed the bets, as according to one source, "There was a fleet of 15 or 16 boats in Beijing. Peter was a rookie four years ago. He was not competing in the medal race, so he was not in a position to influence the result." Besides, at the time he placed the bets, the yachtsman was not violating any Olympic rules, since the provision that Olympic participants aren't allowed to gamble was introduced just a year ago.
