Update: Canadian Single Game Sports Betting Bill Remains in Senate
Implications still investigated by Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee Despite its fast progress earlier this year and its bi-partisan political support, the bill proposed by Canadian MP Joe Comartin, C-290, which proposes that single game sports betting be allowed in addition to the current parlay betting regime. Namely, the bill got caught up at the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee in the Senate which is investigating its implications. However, due to the summer recess, it's not likely the bill will move until later this year. Meanwhile, provincial governments, which have the right to control gambling within their borders, keep promoting sports gambling under the current law. However, British Columbia has seen the BC Lottery Corporation's PlayNow website promoting new live betting and other sports-related wagering styles, powered by Openbet software and offering odds from Paddy Power.
