Wimbledon 2012 semi finals: Murray vs Tsonga, Federer vs Djokovic

Six-time winner Roger Federer will play defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals at Wimbledon after both players cruised past their quarter-final opponents. Federer Mikhail Youzhny 6-1 6-2 6-2 in an hour and 32 minutes while Djokovic beat Florian Mayer 6-4 6-1 6-4 in an hour and 44 minutes on Court One.

It is the sixth time in the last eight Grand Slam tournaments that Federer and Djokovic meet in the final four. Djokovic has an advantage as he has won four of those matches. However, the two have never met on the grass of Wimbledon before.

"I thought I played great out there," Federer said. "I'm extremely happy to be back in the semi-finals here at Wimbledon."I am looking forward to it. It's always a pleasure playing him. He is a great champion. He has dominated for so long. He is so consistent and for me it will be the ultimate challenge," Djokovic replied.

The other semi final will see Britain's Andy Murray taking on France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Murray produced a great fightback to defeat David Ferrer in the quarter finals to reach a fourth consecutive Wimbledon semi-final. Murray was a set and a break down but he came through 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 7-6 (7-4) in three hours and 52 minutes.

"It was a very tough match, a long match, a lot of tight moments," Murray said. "He's a great player and sometimes doesn't get enough respect. I've known him a long time and he's an unbelievably hard worker."

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 to reach his second Wimbledon semi final. "I'm so happy I have a second chance in a semi-final at Wimbledon. It was difficult. Philipp played well, he served well, he was better than me on the baseline, he was very aggressive. But I'm through and I'm happy," said Tsonga, who delivered 17 aces and 43 winners in a match that took two hours and 28 minutes.
