The tournament is now over and it's a good time to pick a fabulous eleven, a fantasy team with all the best players at Euro 2012. Let's see who they are, in our view:
GOALKEEPER - IKER CASILLAS (SPAIN)
The Spanish captain was flawless at Euro 2012 and he has definitely helped his team to the crown. Casillas has kept nine clean sheets at the European Championship final tournaments, equalling Edwin van der Sar's record with the Netherlands. Italy's Gianluigi Buffon is fourth on this list with five, behind another Italian legend, Dino Zoff (6).
RIGHT-BACK - GLEN JOHNSON (ENGLAND)
He had a stunning performance against Italy and was one of the few English players that have impressed at Euro 2012. Only Steven Gerrard (128) had more touches in the opposition half than Johnson (122) for England at Euro 2012.
LEFT-BACK - JORDI ALBA (SPAIN)
He was just bought by Barcelona for 11 million pounds and he seems to be worth every penny. He scored against Italy in the final and he made more passes at Euro 2012 than any other defender (410), and was one of only two full-backs to score, alongside Germany's Lahm. Only three players made more touches in the opposition half (325).
CENTRE-BACK - MATS HUMMELS (GERMANY)
Hummels was like a rock at the heart of the German defence, he never seemed to be in trouble in front of the opposition strikers. He won a higher percentage of his duels (81.1%) than any other player at Euro 2012.
CENTRE-BACK - SERGIO RAMOS (SPAIN)
He was solid at the back but he also provided decent stuff up front. Ramos had more shots than any other defender at Euro 2012 (7). He came close to scoring quite a few times as well.
CENTRAL MIDFIELD - ANDRES INIESTA (SPAIN)
The Barcelona midfielder was impressive once again, a fearless player with extraordinary skills and intelligence on the football pitch. He was a but unlucky though. Iniesta has had more shots on target without scoring at European Championship finals than any other player (11).
CENTRAL MIDFIELD - ANDREA PIRLO (ITALY)
32-year old Pirlo was one of the most impressive players at Euro 2012. He scored a decisive goal against Croatia and set the tempo in all the matches Italy have played at the final tournament. A brilliant player with amazing ball control skills and a sharp brain when it comes to picking the most exquisite passes. Pirlo made 131 passes against England, only Xavi (136 vs Ireland) made more in a single game at Euro 2012.
CENTRAL MIDFIELD - XAVI (SPAIN)
Xavi definitely is the man who leads Spain in attack, the ball always seem to travel to him before moving into dangerous positions for the opponent. Against Portugal, Xavi went past French legend Zinedine Zidane (843) as the player to have made most passes in the history of the European Championships (949) and also set up the most shots in the competition (25).
ATTACKING MIDFIELD - STEVEN GERRARD (ENGLAND)
Without him England might not have gone past the group stage. He has contributed in four of England's eight goals at their last two major tournaments with one goal and three assists.
STRIKER - MARIO GOMEZ (GERMANY)
He has scored three goals at Euro 2012, you can't ask for more from a striker. Only Spain's David Silva was involved in more goals at Euro 2012 with three goals scored and one assist).
STRIKER - MARIO BALOTELLI (ITALY)
He's just 21 years old but he definitely left a mark at Euro 2012. He bagged three goals and, most important, he managed to avoid getting sent off. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (37) had more shots than Balotelli at Euro 2012 (25). Balotelli became the first Italian player to score three goals in a single European Championship final tournament.
