Police and Communications Commission decide to crack down on the pastime The Euro 2012 football competition period will see Malaysian authorities introduce draconian measures against illegal online betting on its matches. This time the police have teamed up with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to bar the country' residents from accessing all online betting websites, including online social sites offering betting. According to Bukit Aman Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice principal assistant director Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan, the police are conducting surveillance with the help of the MCMC, since they saw significant success in fighting these activities during the 2010 World Cup. "MCMC will monitor and prevent access to such websites. Once MCMC identifies any website involved in betting activities, such websites will be barred," he said.
