Cantor to Dominate Sports Betting in Nevada?
Cantor Fitzgerald, under the Cantor Entertainment Technology (CET) division, could take the nation by storm should US sports betting become legal as a result of changes in the Professional Amateur Sports Protection Act. The act currently permits sports betting in four states. States fixed on tax revenue may challenge the act as it is viewed as discriminatory. “We came here to change the face of the industry,'' Amaitis says, referring to the Las Vegas sports betting industry, where CET has invested $150 million in order to operate seven sports books owned by the Venetian and the Palazzo. CET also cornered the market with 'on-premises' wagering in Las Vegas casino resorts with the use of wireless technology on hand held devices. Once licensing becomes available, they hope to launch a Nevada-licensed online poker operation. Amaitis's boss, Cantor Fitzgerald chief Howard Lutnick (50) supports the future gambling endeavors, saying: “The idea that we can bring so much technological innovation to that market is a great opportunity. I think it will dramatically add to the size of the market.'' A recently published article indicates that Amaitis has confidence in abundance, predicting that Cantor will top the sports betting market in Nevada. “I can tell you, Cantor will dominate sports in Nevada,'' Amaitis boasts.
