ACT Under Investigation for Fall of Sports Alive
The gambling authority of the Australian Capital Territory is in the news as they are being investigated for their role in the multi-million dollar demise of online betting enterprise Sports Alive last year. Thirteen complaints have been brought forward with claims that punters were left out of pocket and wish to go after the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission for these losses. Last year, Sports Alive, operated from Melbourne, crashed while owing over $10 million including about $327,000 to the ACT Revenue office. The liquidators have said that $3.9 million remains owned to 18,000 punters and there is pressure to investigate the Gambling and Racing Commission for their failure to adequately regulate the sportsbook. The ACT Ombudsman's office in unwilling to discuss any inquiries surrounding the investigation or its likely duration. “Ombudsman investigations are conducted in private, so we will not comment on these questions,” the spokeswoman said.
