Israel May Introduce Horse Race Betting
New proposal receives Knesset Finance Committee's approval A new measure is being prepared in Israel, striving to introduce betting on overseas horse races over the internet. The proposal is currently in the Knesset where it has passed the Finance Committee, and it has received the support from by Culture and Sports Minister Limor Livnat. Thanks to the Finance Committee's approval, the measure would allow Israelis to bet online on horse races in the UK within six months; within a year, they should be able to bet on races and elsewhere in the world, but not in Israel. The only thing they'll be required to do is to fill out a form at a local Toto Winner sports betting outlet. Still, there's also been opposition to the proposed measure, especially by the coalition government's partner Shachiv Shnaan of Atzmaut, and the opposition politician Shai Hermesh from the Kadima Party. On the other hand, according to culture and Sports Ministry director general Orly Fruman, horse race betting would increase revenues at the Toto Winner sports betting council, which in turn supports the construction of community sports facilities around the country.
