MoU Inked by Malta and Ontario
Two jurisdictions to cooperate A bilateral Memorandum of Understanding has been closed this week between Malta's Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Based on the MOU, the two jurisdictions will exchange information and applicant eligibility assessments as well as compliance and regulatory assurances with respect to gaming. In addition, they may conduct joint, cooperative or collaborative inspections, investigations and enforcement activities, enter employee exchanges and twinning programs, but also facilitate non duplication of requirements and controls and server locations. The LGA seems to be very active in the field of mutual understanding with fellow organizations, so it recently signed another MOU, this time with FIFA's internal agency on sport integrity. This MOU seeks to protect the integrity of football and sports betting, and it will see the LGA cooperate in the fight against match fixing and illicit sports betting as set out by the FIFA Early Warning System GmBH (EWS). Thereby, the MOU will cover the exchange of betting related information, the investigation of suspicious betting patterns or insider betting connected with sporting events and competitions. It has been specified by Malta's Minister of Finance, the Economy and Industry, Tonio Fenech: "A collaborative agreement between the LGA and FIFA reflects the importance that the Maltese Legislation places on game fairness in all senses."
