The World Loses Piermario Morosini
The football world suffered a loss on Saturday after Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini, 25, collapsed on the pitch during his side's Serie B game at Pescara. This weekend's Italian football program was canceled and worldwide major league games observed a moment of silence in honor of this tragic loss. After a win in the Barcelona Open final, tennis player, Sara Errani, dedicated the victory to Morosini. She said, “This tournament is for him. It has been very hard. The images have impacted me a lot. It's amazing that these things can happen. It really makes you think." A somber scene surrounded the Livorno's Armando Picchi stadium as fans gathered leaving behind tokens as they paid their respects. A banner which read "You fought until the end, goodbye great Moro” hung outside the stadium. "The family, the girlfriend of Piermario and AS Livorno Calcio wants to thank all of the people that in this time of pain have remembered a great athlete and a special person," was on club's official website. Morosini suffered personal tragedy losing both of his parents before he turned 18 years old. He suffered yet another loss when his brother, who suffered from a disability, committed suicide. Pescara's authorities plan to investigate the details surrounding Morosini's death. Apparently, a parked car belonging to traffic police delayed the ambulances entry into the stadium by blocking the path.
