UEFA Europa League Semi-Finals: A Spanish Domination

During the semi-finals, Club Atlético de Madrid is set to take on Valencia CF as Sporting Clube de Portugal go up against Athletic Club.

Based on a series of eight ties on Thursday, the UEFA Europa League semi-finals will be an all-Spanish affair and an Iberian derby.

After defeating Valencia CF on away goals in the quarter-finals toward the 2010 trophy, Club Atlético de Madrid will go head to head with the fellow La Liga outfit once again later in the month. A 4-2 total victory against Hannover 96 has brought Atlético this far and Unai Emery's team recovered from a 2-1 shortfall during the first leg to AZ Alkmaar with a 4-0 victory at the Mestalla.

The Rojiblancos will host Valencia on April 19th with the second leg scheduled for the following week. The Lions of Portugal go up against the Lions of Spain in the other semi-final tie on the same night.

Sporting Clube de Portugal will face Athletic Club at home in the first leg on April 19th as well. A repeat of the Portuguese side's1985 competitive meeting win will carry them into the finals in Bucharest on 9 May.

Quarter Final Results

Valencia - AZ

Athletic - Schalke

Hannover - Atlético

Metalist - Sporting
