Reasons not given, speculations arise that the decision is due to French ban on betting exchanges
In its recent announcement, betting exchange Betfair stated that it will not be accepting bets on the outcome of the French presidential election next month.
And even though the reasons for such a decision are at present unknown, it is being speculated that it results from the French ban on betting exchanges and a desire to comply with legal requirements in regulated markets.
In line with this, Befair's French website cannot be accessed; however both Will Hill and Ladbrokes are offering odds outside France.
At the moment, odds are on the side of socialist contender Francois Hollande, whereas the incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy is his main competitor.
