Update: IOC Closes Deal with ARJEL
Two organizations to join forces against illegal sports betting A report arrived this week that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and French online gaming regulator ARJEL decided to join forces and close a partnership after their meeting in Lausanne last week. The third meeting of the Working Group on Irregular and Illegal Betting in Sport, which was attended by 50 representatives from various sporting bodies, regulatory authorities, betting operators, Government officials and Interpol, and chaired by IOC President Rogge, saw a series of measures approved. These include awareness campaigns, improved monitoring, the analysis and exchange of information as well as the adoption of legislative and regulatory means to fight the issue. In addition, the meeting resulted in an approval of the formation of a monitoring unit, which will be in charge of following the progress of the implementation of these recommendations and report on its findings at the next meeting.
