Governor Christie remains true to his word
After days of uncertainty, the New Jersey Senator Ray Lesniak's interstate sports betting legalization bill, which authorizes a challenge of the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) was signed by Governor Chris Christie.
With this action, Gov. Christie fulfilled his promise to respect the will of the state residents expressed at the Nov. 8 ballot. However, the condition for the governor's sign off was that the federal ban is overturned.
Now, it seems like there's surely going to be a court battle against the PASPA, which bans sports betting in all but four states. This way, it is claimed by supporters of sports betting, the state coffers could benefit from significant tax revenues as well as from the possibility to reclaim millions of dollars from illegal bookies.
