Update: Tax Dispute Win for Centrebet
Litigation settled by Aussie tax body An announcement arrived this week that British gambling firm Sportingbet PLC's subsidiary Centrebet has won a dispute in the Australian market, which will see it receive some A$91 million from the Australian Taxation Office. The news comes after reports of a settlement agreement signed in late December, following Centrebet-initiated court action over a 'global GST' dispute calculated on money wagered less winnings paid out – apparently, authorities failed to include prizes paid out in their calculations involving offshore players. On Dec. 20, 2011, the consent agreement filed by the Commissioner of Taxation was signed off by Justice Jayne Jagot.
