Congress to Face Two New Sports Betting Legalization Initiatives?
PASPA under fire from New Jersey politicians A new development occurred in the US state of New Jersey where a sports betting legalization initiative has been pursued by the state senator Ray Lesniak. Namely, his initiative will be reinforced by Republican politician Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo's political actions, as he is currently drafting two federal measures with an aim to either obtain an exemption from the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act for New Jersey, or, what's more, overturn the act. In a statement on the November 8 state ballot in New Jersey, where the state residents voted in favour of sports betting, LoBiondo says: “Now that New Jersey has spoken loud and clear of their support for sports-betting, I will work in Congress to get legislation passed to give our state that right.” As for Sen. Lesniak, since he has already ushered through sports betting legislation at state level, the state has been authorized to take legal action against the PASPA if necessary, and his bill is now waiting for state Senate approval in January.
