Spanish Operations to Be Suspended, Announces Unibet
Customers from other Spanish speaking countries to be accepted, though An announcement arrived this week from online gambling firm Unibet that it is withdrawing from the Spanish market, in line with the country's new gambling legislation that will enter into force on January 1, 2012. The company has indicated that its Unibet and Maria brands will no longer take Spanish players as of December 20, 2011, but specified that this decision will not affect acceptance of customers from other Spanish speaking countries, adding that Spanish customers who do not reside in Spain will be redirected to Unibet's Brazilian website as of December 14, 2011. Whether this means that Unibet is applying for the Spanish license or has decided to drop the market entirely, it remains to be seen. In any way, clarification from Unibet has not arrived yet.
