Fantasy Sports Sector Gets Fresh Competitors

A new line of business for Cardrunner founders It seems like Taylor Caby and Andrew Wiggins, the founders of the poker coaching website CardRunners, have decided to give their management skills a try and venture into a new, fantasy sports sector. Namely, this week they announced the launch of a daily fantasy sports website titled Draft Day, where players can enjoy cash games, strategy blogs and a forum for social interaction. At the moment, the site offers free and cash daily games for fantasy football and fantasy baseball, allowing users to participate in multiple leagues every day, in head-to-head and multiple player games. In addition, a DraftDay Perfect Lineup competition is organized to mark the launch, in which users can compete for a $1 million prize by composing a fantasy team with the exact top scoring players at each position. According to Wiggins, "Taylor and I started tossing around the idea of a fantasy sports website years ago, but the timing was never right. After I won my MLB league last season, I took it as a sign that we needed to push the idea toward reality. There's no season-long commitment and there's always a draft available. "There is a social aspect to fantasy sports that you also find in poker. It's competitive, stats driven and an adrenaline rush. It's also a great way to make a hobby into something really profitable," Wiggins concluded.
