No TonyBet Shirt Logo at EuroBasket 2011

Lithuanian representation not to wear their sponsor's logo on shirts

Despite the fact that it has been a generous sponsor of the Lithuanian basketball federation, TonyBet, a Lithuanian sportsbetting operation owned by professional poker player Tony G will not find its logo on the team shirts for EuroBasket 2011.

Apparently, the logo has been banned by Lithuanian gaming authorities due to an existing advertising ban of gambling activities in the country. However, a compromise arrived when they allowed the sportsbetting firm to advertise on television during the Championship, of which the proposed adverts still need to get an approval from the gambling authorities.

One of the major things the company did to become the federation's sponsor was to pay a significant share of the Euro 500 000 needed to purchase a wild-card entry for the FIBA World Championship held in Turkey.
