Feb 10, 2011
Joint venture with G.Matica Srl According to latest announcement from Swedish gambling company Betsson, the industry giant is entering a joint venture with G.Matica Srl in Italy, a gaming division of one of the biggest IT companies in Italy, Alma Viva. As G.Matica Srl has an online gambling license for the Italian market and operates the site Gbet.it, so this deal with Betsson will help it broaden its online sector in the Italian market, the biggest one in Europe, with an estimated 2010 turnover of Euro 4.8 billion and an annual growth rate of 28 percent, as specified by a spokesman. Regarding this new development in his company, Betsson AB CEO Pontus Lindwall said: “With this Italian B2B-deal, Betsson is taking an important step in the new regulated European environment. Betsson views the Italian market as a good jurisdiction within which to operate from a local licensing perspective. Our partner has a solid background in IT and gaming, as well as local knowledge of the Italian market, and Betsson contributes with valuable gaming know how and operations, which together will be a great foundation for success on the market”. It was further assessed that this deal will result in revenues for Betsson not sooner than in the second quarter of 2011. However, there is another novelty in the Italian gambling market: namely, a new decree has been released by the national gaming regulator, AAMS, that will enable existing licensees to offer Casino and Cash Poker Games.
