Unusual Betting Patterns Cause Distress

Association of British Bookmakers expresses concern A great deal of concern has been expressed about potential high profile corruption in sports ever since a red card was issued to Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings, raising serious suspicion about irregular betting activities. The Association of British Bookmakers reported concerns on unusual betting patterns during the football match between Motherwell and Hearts, one of which occurred in online betting company Blue Square.com, a subsidiary of the Rank Group. According to the media, one of those bets was a GBP500 stake placed at 10-1 odds, which caused enough distress to take the issue to the UK Gambling Commission's Sports Betting Intelligence Unit who will ascertain whether the issue merits an investigation.
