The race to become one of the biggest events in the greyhound racing sector?
According to recent announcements, betting exchange firm Bettor.com will be the sponsor of the first Northern Irish Derby, a 48-dog competition, which is thought to become one of the most prestigious races in the greyhound racing sector. It will be held at Drumbo Park, located in the Belfast suburbs in June 2011 with a prize pool of GBP 25 000.
Apart from the Northern Irish Derby, Bettor.com's portfolio of greyhound racing sponsorships also includes the Scottish Derby and the Puppy Derby.
Bettor PR manager Jayne Clarke said: ''Being as Northern Ireland has been untouched in terms of greyhound Derby's, and as we have mutual views on the future of greyhound racing as Drumbo Park, this was an opportunity we couldn't ignore. We hope it will to bring to fans an annual event they'll want to enjoy for many years to come."
On the other side, Neil Redmond, General Manager at Drumbo Park, commented: 'This is a great development for such a young stadium. The Northern Irish Derby will be, by far, the most prestigious greyhound meeting held here.'
