Serious punishment needed for sporting cheats
After a series of international cricket scandals, it was stated by Betfair's Australian division, which at the moment acts as a sponsor for the Ashes cricket series, that severe criminal charge should be introduced for sporting cheats.
In an interview to The Age newspaper, the company spokesman Hugh Taggart stated: ''While we believe we are well placed to deter and detect corrupt activity, the best disincentive for anyone tempted to engage in corruption will always be the prospect of getting caught and the seriousness of the consequences.''
According to Betfair, new laws should be applied which allow for the criminal prosecution of cricket match fixers.
