Canadian Online Sports Betting High Roller Faces Fraud Charges

Bank of Montreal defrauded of CDM $600,000

This week, the court heard a Canadian online sports bettor Stewart Goldstein, who is charged with defrauding Bank of Montreal of CDM $ 600 000. Goldstein confessed that he was conducting a fraud against the bank via a complex shares and deposits scheme, but added that he served as a scapegoat for a whole ring of organized crime, which threatened him with his enormous betting losses.

According to the local Montreal Gazette, a few years back Goldstein was CDM $1.6 million in debt with alleged organized crime group, which used the debt and personal threats as a means to force him to conduct the bank fraud, along with an employee from the bank.

The Prosecutor Nathalie Fafard is asking for a 30-month prison sentence for the fraud. Still, it remains to see what the court's final decision is to be.
