New Client For Online Fantasy Sports Firm

Orange County Register joins a growing list of media users

Fanduel's fantasy sports game, in which internet sports fans compete for money thanks to exemptions in the US anti-online gambling laws, continues to generate solid business, with the Orange County Register the latest media company to offer the product.

A company spokesman announced this week that the game will appear within the sports pages of the Register's website at OCregister.fanduel.com, offering NFL and Major League Baseball competitions.

NBA and NHL games will be added when those seasons start.

California-based Fanduel signed the partnership agreement with the Register on Friday, revealing that it involves revenue-sharing by the two companies.

"Fantasy sports are hugely popular with our readers," said John Fabris, the Register's deputy editor for sports. "Now they will be able to play right on our site, where they also can find sports news, commentary and data."

Register sportswriters will compete with fans and offer tips to spice up the action, he added.

Unlike most fantasy sports games, Fanduel allows users to draft a team that lasts only one day. Because there is no season-long commitment, participants are able to win cash the same day they field a team. Users also can play for free without prizes.

Other media owners now using the product include the St. Petersburg Times, New York Post, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News.
