Ukraine Gambling Incentives For Euro 2012

Preferential terms available for prospective gambling operators The prospect of tourists attending the Euro 2012 football tournament matches in the Ukraine has generated renewed interest in establishing gambling operations in resort areas like the Crimea and Western Ukraine. It is understood that these regions will be exempt from the draconian bans against gambling established last year Interfax-Ukraine reports that the regions will receive preferential terms for opening gambling establishments, and quotes as its authority the vice premier in charge of preparing for and hosting the Euro 2012, Borys Kolesnikov. "In the resort towns of Crimea and western Ukraine there will be special terms for opening gambling businesses," Kolesnikov said at a briefing in Lviv Tuesday. "At the initial stage, I can say that in the resort towns that will be included [on the list of such towns] legal gambling establishments could be opened in three-, four- and five-star hotels, while in other cities only in five-star hotels. "Preferential terms will be determined, but I wouldn't like to speak about them," Kolesnikov concluded. According to the vice premier, the state would offer assistance to the hotel business in receiving credits. England and Wales have been drawn in the same qualifying group for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. Switzerland, Bulgaria and Montenegro are the other teams in Group G following the draw in Warsaw recently. The tournament runs from 8 June to 1 July 2012.
