Sportingbet In French Online Gambling Partnership

Major newspaper and betting group to collaborate when the French market is liberated Online betting group Sportingbet.com continued its preparations to enter a liberalised French gambling market with a deal this week with the online version of major newspaper Le Monde. Le Monde.fr and Sportingbet have inked a two-year exclusive partnership which plans to commence at the beginning of April 2010 in order to comply with French legislative changes. The partnership includes both an advertising agreement and a new co-branded product, accessible from the sport pages of Le Monde.fr. Both parties stressed their wish to comply with French law, and the agreement will therefore be implemented in two stages. A free betting application will be available from April 2010, followed by a real money website as soon as the market officially opens to operators in France (the current forecast on the 1st of June 2010). Philippe Jeannet, CEO of Le Monde, said: “LeMonde.fr users expect a high quality, innovative service that respects both French and European regulations, and Sportingbet have shown they will meet this expectation through their policy to date.”
