Vettel cheated and won World Championship?
« on: November 29, 2012, 02:33:06 AM »
Just heard that Sebastian Vettel cheated and shouldn't have won the championship.  He overtook whilst the yellow flag was out and before he passed the green flag

If they investigate and he gets time penalties, he will lose 2 places from his finishing position from 6th to 8th, which in turn will cost him 3 points and the world championship.

if this happens, Fernando Alonso will be world champion and make a lot more money from sponsorship etc.

Here is a video that explains it. - HERE

Thoughts?

Well, what I know is that Vettel pulled off an amazing race, fought his way back after a terrible start and probably deserved to finish 6th.

What happened there is borderline in my view, it was just a few yards away from the green flag. Don't know if it's still illegal but it would be extremely harsh to take the title away from him for that.

I agree it is harsh but he did break the rules.

I can't see the video, it's no longer available... and I can't find another one on youtube. :(

You're right - it has been removed by Formula 1 Management.

Yes, it seems so. But F1 rules are extremely complicated, so I guess we'll have to wait and see whether Ferrari will do something about it.

Too bad, I really wanted to see the video, of course. Honestly, I do prefer Vettel to Alonso but if he broke the rules, he shouldn't win the championship.

According to the Irish Times, "The FIA has confirmed there is “no case to answer” with regard to a move made by the newly crowned world champion Sebastian Vettel on Jean-Eric Vergne during Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix."

I'm glad really.

The BBC says that there is new footage that shows that the overtake was legal, so I guess that's the end of it. The video shows a marshal waving a green flag, which means overtaking was allowed, and that marshal had been obscured until now by television graphics.

Thank you both for the info; it was a very intriguing end of the season.
