No fair play left, not even in tennis!
« on: April 10, 2012, 09:02:17 AM »
The Davis Cup matches were played last week and, as you already know, the Czech Republic met Serbia and eventually won.

An unusual fact happened at the end of the Stepanek vs Tipsarevic match though, as the Czech player refused to shake Tipsarevic's hand and gave him a slight middle finger gesture instead.

Video - http://youtu.be/IX6LUlzA74Q

Tipsarevic was, as I would have been in his place, furious. What's the matter with these people? Tennis was supposed to be a gentlemen's sport...

P.S.: There's an interview with Tipsarevic available in which he probably explains what happened there but I don't know the language - http://youtu.be/xNUjXcoPgTk

Unbelievably poor sportsmanship.  Tennis IS definitely supposed to be a gentleman's sport....shame on him!

Ya know i was watching the American football games this past season and the hits are getting outrageous . What does it take to be a gentelman in sport ? Sportmanship and challenge. Thinking the only sport remaining in North America that is gentelmanly is hockey. For this decaying state in sport , bad sportsmanship, cowardice, i can only say it is getting worse. For sparring partners to entangle in struggle is what sport is to me, and to exert certain self control to be forceful yet honorable in their faculty of offense.

A sad thing is that this happens very often in tennis as well, there are players who don't know what the sportsmanship means, Almagro, Berdych, Chela, Stepanek... but Kollerer must be the worst player out there, he is banned for life for match-fixing.

This is Oscar Fernandez celebrating after beating Kollerer:

Oh yes... Janko said something like, could you imagine, after 5 hours and 10 minutes the guy showed me the middle finger instead to shake hands and I totally freaked out..but I won and I played well....
