I'm not really sure who will be a Movistar leader he or Quintana? Or they will let the race to decide who is in better shape? What you think Johnny?

In theory Valverde is the leader of the team for the Vuelta. But if he gets dropped in a mountain stage then I guess they will switch to Quintana if the Colombian will be able to stay with the best on long climbs.

Stage 5 is definitely one for the sprinters but the riders will have do deal with the heat and also with the possibility of some strong winds in the open countryside.

Here are the odds for stage 5 at BetVictor:

Peter Sagan 6/4
John Degenkolb 15/4
Nacer Bouhanni 4/1
Danny Van Poppel 16/1
Caleb Ewan 18/1
Carlos Barbero 25/1
Jean Pierre Drucker 33/1
Alejandro Valverde 33/1
Vicente Reynes 50/1
Jose Goncalves 50/1
Simon Gerrans 50/1

Good luck!

Great win for this young guy Ewan against some top sprinters like Degenkolb and Sagan. Obviously the boy has big future in the sprint and I guess this is the first of many victories for him. Some seconds between the favs also in the end which is more of psychological meaning really.
I'm exited about tomorrows stage when will be the first real test for all the major contenders for the overall victory.

Stage 6 seems designed for Valverde, the Spaniard has a great chance of getting a second victory today. The last two kilometers are steep and difficult, if you add the heat and the 200km of the stage then I guess we might see some general classification contenders crumble.

Here are the odds for stage 6 at BetVictor:

Alejandro Valverde 9/4
Daniel Moreno 13/2
Joaquim Rodriguez 7/1
Daniel Martin 10/1
Esteban Chaves 18/1
Nicolas Roche 25/1
Peter Sagan 28/1
Sergio Henao 33/1
Domenico Pozzovivo 33/1
Tom Dumoulin 40/1
Nairo Quintana 40/1
Jose Goncalves 40/1
Rafal Majka 45/1
Chris Froome 45/1

Good luck!

Orica GreenEdge is the team of the first week, they've managed to win 3 stages and Chaves is the overall leader so they couldn't ask for more really. Maybe from now on the contenders for the general classification will have to follow his moves  more closely or he might become a threat for them in the end ;)

Bert-Jan Lindeman achieved a breakaway win today, it was his third time in the break at this year's Vuelta and he finally was repaid for his bravery with a victory. Among the big favourites only Fabio Aru found the courage to attack but it was just 1km from the line. The Italian gained a few seconds on the others but the big news is that Chris Froome and Van Garderen were dropped, losing around half a minute each.

Stage 7 results

1   Bert-Jan Lindeman (Ned) LottoNL-Jumbo   5:10:24
2   Ilia Koshevoy (Blr) Lampre-Merida   +00:09
3   Fabio Aru (Ita) Astana   +00:29
4   Jerome Cousin (Fra) Europcar   +00:34
5   Rafal Majka (Pol) Tinkoff-Saxo   +00:36
6   Esteban Chaves (Col) Orica-GreenEdge
7   Alejandro Valverde (Spa) Movistar
8   Nairo Quintana (Col) Movistar
9   Louis Meintjes (RSA) MTN-Qhubeka
10   Nicolas Roche (Irl) Team Sky

General classification after stage 7

1   Esteban Chaves (Col) Orica-GreenEdge   27:06:13

Stage 8 is mostly downhill, it will be a very fast one. There are two third-category climbs in the final 40km (actually the same climb done twice), we might see attacks on those but in theory this stage should finish in a mass sprint.

Here are the odds for stage 8 at BetVictor:

Peter Sagan 9/4
John Degenkolb 4/1
Alejandro Valverde 10/1
Nacer Bouhanni 12/1
Tom Dumoulin 16/1
Luis Gil 16/1
Caleb Ewan 16/1
Sylvian Chavanel 22/1
Jose Gil 25/1
Daniel Moreno 28/1
Jasper Stuyven 33/1
Jose Goncalves 40/1
Adam Hanson 40/1

Good luck!

Peter Sagan is favourite for today, but everything can happen.I suppose that Valverde can surprise, because of inspiration of cycling at home country.

Hectic stage today, plenty of crashes and not a mass sprint at the finish. Jasper Stuyven was the man who won it in a reduced-numbers sprint as the front group remained with only around 30 riders after the last climb and descent. Tejay van Garderen (BMC Racing), Dan Martin (Cannondale Garmin) and Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) were injured in a big crash and retired from the race.

Stage 8 results

1   Jasper Stuyven (Bel) Trek Factory Racing   4:06:05
2   Pello Bilbao (Spa) Caja Rural-Seguros RGA
3   Kévin Reza (Fra) FDJ.fr
4   Giovanni Visconti (Ita) Movistar Team
5   Youcef Reguigui (Alg) MTN - Qhubeka
6   Tosh Van Der Sande (Bel) Lotto Soudal
7   Julien Simon (Fra) Cofidis, Solutions Credits
8   Pieter Serry (Bel) Etixx - Quick-Step
9   Jose Joaquin Rojas (Spa) Movistar Team
10   Nicolas Roche (Irl) Team Sky

General classification after stage 8

1   Esteban Chaves (Col) Orica GreenEdge   31:12:18
2   Tom Dumoulin (Ned) Team Giant-Alpecin   +00:10
3   Nicolas Roche (Irl) Team Sky   +00:36

Oh, and apparently Peter Sagan was hit by a motorcycle during the race, it's pretty much unclear at the moment but we did get to see his reaction on TV (recording HERE).

In the yesterdays stage I was amazed by the Sky tactics when two of the Sky riders finished 15-20 seconds in front of the team leader Froome without waiting for him. It was just stupid and I wonder what the hell they were thinking. They could easily save him at least 10 seconds and instead they finished just ahead of him without any chance for stage victory or other success. Crazy decision and I doubt that Nicola Roche who was one of those two will be a contender for the end victory. So it's just strange and stupid for me.
