Cycling - La Vuelta 2015
« on: August 22, 2015, 09:35:40 AM »
After the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France it's time for the third and final Grand Tour of the season, the Vuelta! The line-up is the best we had in years, with Froome, Quintana and Nibali among others.

Saturday's first stage is a team time trial by the Mediterranean Sea from Puerto Banus to Marbella, it's short (just 7.4km) but it should be quite spectacular.

Here are the odds for stage 1 at BetVictor:

Trek Factory Racing 2/1
Team Giant Alpecin 4/1
Orica Greenedge 4/1
Tinkoff-Saxo 13/2
Movistar 9/1
Team Sky 10/1
BMC Racing Team 12/1
Etixx Quickstep 12/1
Team Lotto NL-Jumbo 16/1
Astana 22/1
IAM Cycling 40/1
Lotto Soudal 50/1
Cofidis 80/1
Caja Rural 100/1
Ag2r 125/1
Cannondale Garmin 125/1
Lampre 125/1
Team Katusha 125/1
FDJ 200/1
MTN Qhubeka 200/1
Team Columbia 250/1
Team Europcar 400/1

Good luck!

I'm exited just in front of the race. The previous two grand tours of the year were great and I expecting the Vuelta will be no less intriguing and why not even better. :)

BMC pulled it off, the odds on them were excellent considering how good they are in such stages. Peter Velits will be the first leader of the race but the time delays won't count in the general classification, the route was quite dangerous so they decided to neutralise the GC delays (that's why Chris Froome and Team Sky went for a calm stroll instead of taking risks).

Today's stage will surely be an exciting one, the route goes up and down right from the start and the finish is at the summit of a short but steep climb: 2.5km at an average gradient of 9% (with peaks of 15%).

Here are the odds for stage 2 at Bet Victor:

Alejandro Valverde 9/4
Joaquim Rodriguez 6/1
Daniel Moreno 7/1
Sergio Henao 9/1
Christopher Froome 16/1
Daniel Martin 16/1
Fabio Aru 16/1
Jose Esteban Rubio Chaves 25/1
Nairo Quintana 33/1
Peter Sagan 33/1
Vincenzo Nibali 33/1
Domenico Pozzovivo 40/1
Mikel Landa 40/1

Good luck!

Great victory for Esteban Chaves today, the little Colombian climber made the difference on the final ramps. Tom Dumoulin clinched a surprising second place, I wouldn't have expected him to be competitive on such a climb. Nairo Quintana and Joaquim Rodriguez gained a few seconds on the other general classification contenders.

Stage 2 results

1   Esteban Chaves (Col) Orica GreenEdge   3:57:25
2   Tom Dumoulin (Ned) Team Giant-Alpecin   +00:01
3   Nicolas Roche (Irl) Team Sky   +00:09
4   Daniel Martin (Irl) Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling Team   +00:14
5   Joaquim Rodriguez (Spa) Team Katusha   +00:26
6   Nairo Quintana (Col) Movistar Team
7   Christopher Froome (GBr) Team Sky   +00:30
8   Alejandro Valverde (Spa) Movistar Team   +00:31
9   Daniel Moreno Fernandez (Spa) Team Katusha
10   Fabio Aru (Ita) Astana Pro Team   +00:37

Bad luck again for Nibali and probably he's not going to be a team leader of Astana in this race. But it was quite surprising between the favourites, I mean Quiantana atack after which he was not able to stay with the leading group.

I think Quintana wanted to test himself and see what he's capable of at the moment. Or maybe his attack was supposed to be followed by an attack from Valverde and when Quintana saw that his team mate was unable to attack he decided to stop pushing.

Shocking news: Nibali was disqualified from the Vuelta!

“The film is very clear, it shows that Nibali has put his hand on the car for 100 metres,” head commisaire Bruno Valcic said. “So the penalty for this is very clear. The decision of the commissaires is very clear, Vincenzo Nibali has been disqualified from the race.”

I have found the video HERE, it is quite clear indeed. Very stupid thing to do, both from Nibali and directeur sportif Alexandre Shefer, who was driving the car.

Stage 3 is, at least on paper, one for the sprinters. There is a big first-category climb but it's right in the middle of the stage and also a tricky short ascent around six kilometres from the finish. The teams of the big sprinters will have to work hard in order to keep the pack tight.

Here are the odds for stage 3 at BetVictor:

Nacer Bouhanni 5/2
John Degenkolb 7/2
Peter Sagan 6/1
Caleb Ewan 6/1
Danny Van Poppel 16/1
Kris Boeckmans 25/1
Jempy Drucker 28/1
Kristian Sbaragli 33/1
Vicente Reynes 40/1
Jose Joaquin Rojas 40/1
Tom Van Asbroeck 40/1

Good luck!

It's Peter Sagan, finally! The Slovakian rider was fastest in the sprint and captured his first stage victory at a Grand Tour after an incredible two-year drought (his last stage win was at the 2013 Tour de France).

8   Jasper Stuyven (Bel) Trek Factory Racing

Yes probably one of these Johnny

Yes it was quite stupid from his side but I don't think that they have to disqualified him for that. Just some penalty seconds or minutes would do the work.

Yeah finally!!!
Although he's not at all from my favourite riders I think he deserved that victory because of the so many second places lately and the job that Saxo done  in the stage. He'll probably be hungry for more in the next days .

Stage 4 is long and flat but it won't be one for the sprinters because there are two serious hills right at the end. There will surely be several attacks there, maybe even from general classification contenders.

Here are the odds for stage 4 at BetVictor:

Peter Sagan 4/1
Alejandro Valverde 6/1
Joaquim Rodriguez 15/2
Daniel Moreno 9/1
Daniel Martin 19/2
Tom Dumoulin 12/1
John Degenkolb 16/1
Nacer Bouhanni 20/1
Simon Gerrans 20/1
Carlos Barbero Cuesta 28/1
Esteban Chaves 28/1
Carlos Barbero 28/1
Nicolas Roche 33/1
Sergio Henao 33/1

Good luck!

Sagan returns to his usual second place today, Valverde proved too strong for him on the final hundreds of meters of the ascent to the finish line. Chaves remains at the top of the general classification but Valverde, Quintana and Froome are now in the top ten.

7   Julien Simon (Fra) Cofidis, Solutions Credits   +00:03
8   Rafal Majka (Pol) Tinkoff-Saxo
9   Nairo Quintana (Col) Movistar Team
10   Esteban Chaves (Col) Orica GreenEdge

Yeah his win from yesterday was just for a little change LOL

Valverde looking fresh now but we'll see when the big climbs come.
I'm not really sure who will be a Movistar leader he or Quintana? Or they will let the race to decide who is in better shape? What you think Johnny?
