Football fair play
« on: March 16, 2012, 11:28:09 AM »
We all know that fair play is not a common quality in football, especially the Italian school, but the video I saw today tells something else.

It gives us a story of fair play in The Coppa Italia Dilettanti league, when a controversial penalty awarded to one team caused a dispute and outraged the opposing team's goalkeeper.

To see what happens next, see the video:

If you were the player to perform the penalty kick, would you do the same?

There's something to be said for good sportsmanship. Very impressive and I would like to think I'd do the same.

I've seen something similar in the Romanian league a few years ago, but it didn't go that far: the player that took a dive in the penalty area went to the referee and persuaded him to change his decision to award a penalty as he admitted that he wasn't fouled.

So I guess what this Italian guy did is even better.

It's a great move, really, but I imagine it may incur certain consequences for the player who missed the penalty on purpose? I mean, it is a smaller Italian league, but there's still a lot of money in the game, right?

I saw that video, too. I don't know about the consequences but he certainly deserves respect.

Even if his team was winning, that was a great move from his side. You never know what might happen next in a match. :)
