  • Crazy stuff in the second half, five goals as Belgium fought back from 2-0 down to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

    Belgium 3 - 2 Japan

  • As you said Johnny...crazy stuff!!

Probably the Japanese didn't deserve to loose that...not in the regular time anyway...as you might guess my stake had lost because of it.

Don't see a bright future for the Belgians though, not playing like these anyway.

  • Don't see a bright future for the Belgians though, not playing like these anyway.

Their defending was laughable, Brazil might have lots of fun with that.

  • Last two places in the quarter-finals up for grabs, here are the odds at NetBet:

    Sweden - Switzerland

    3.00 - 2.95 - 2.70

    Colombia - England

    4.05 - 3.15 - 2.10

    Good luck!

  • Sweden are through to the last eight, they have not gone so far in the competition since 1994.

    Sweden 1 - 0 Switzerland

  • England have finally won a penalty shoot-out, they will face Sweden in the last eight.

    Colombia 1 - 2 (1 - 1) England (after penalties)

  • England have finally won a penalty shoot-out, they will face Sweden in the last eight.

    Colombia 1 - 2 (1 - 1) England (after penalties)

Yeah, at last! I've had a slight feeling it could go that way even in the first half.

After what the Colombians did yesterday think I'm not the only one glad to see them out!

  • First two quarter-finals today, here are the odds at NetBet:

    Uruguay - France

    4.45 - 3.10 - 2.00

    Brazil - Belgium

    2.10 - 3.35 - 3.65

    Good luck!

  • It was easier than expected for France, Uruguay were unable to pose much of a threat without Cavani while Muslera gave away an easy goal in the second half.

    Uruguay 0 - 2 France

  • A fine match and a great victory for Belgium, a superb goal from De Bruyne and overall a solid performance from the Belgians.

    Brazil 1 - 2 Belgium

  • Last two quarter-finals coming up, here are the odds at NetBet:

    Sweden - England

    4.60 - 3.25 - 1.90

    Russia - Croatia

    3.95 - 3.05 - 2.15

    Good luck!

  • A fine match and a great victory for Belgium, a superb goal from De Bruyne and overall a solid performance from the Belgians.

    Brazil 1 - 2 Belgium

Yeah, really, the upsets keep coming at this World Cup, I think that's great.

  • A deserved victory for England, even though Pickford had to pull off a few great saves to keep a clean sheet.

    Sweden 0 - 2 England

  • Great entertainment and great tension between Russia and Croatia, they have scored one goal apiece in extra time and eventually decided the match on penalties.

    Russia 2 - 3 (1 - 1) Croatia (after penalties)

    The semi-finals are as follows:

    France vs Belgium (Tuesday)

    Croatia vs England (Wednesday)

  • Should be a great games.

I don't have an idea which two going to play at the final but hope to be an entertainers both games.

  • First semi-final coming up today, here are the odds at NetBet:

    France - Belgium

    2.45 - 3.20 - 3.10

    Good luck!

  • Solid performance from France and a deserved victory overall, they have played almost perfectly in the second half.

    France 1 - 0 Belgium

  • Second semi-final coming up, here are the odds at NetBet:

    Croatia - England

    3.55 - 3.10 - 2.30

    Good luck!

  • Croatia fought back from 1-0 down and won the match thanks to an extra-time goal from Mandzukic, a deserved victory I'd say.

    Croatia 2 - 1 (1 - 1) England (after extra time)

  • Croatia fought back from 1-0 down and won the match thanks to an extra-time goal from Mandzukic, a deserved victory I'd say.

    Croatia 2 - 1 (1 - 1) England (after extra time)

I'd say that too Johnny, great win for them and finally we have an underdog team that broke the norms entering the final at a World Cups, hope they won't stop here, it's about believe now I think, good luck to Croatia.

  • Belgium and England are playing for a consolation prize tonight, here are the odds at NetBet:

    Belgium - England

    2.25 - 3.65 - 3.05

    Good luck!

  • No trouble for Belgium, but third place still feels like a consolation prize for such a great squad.

    Belgium 2 - 0 England

  • I agree Johnny, but hey...they've never been even 3-rd so far so..something to talk about for every Belgian in the years to come, nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to this team, they just wasn't good enough(or not believing enough) at the semifinal.

As for England - I alone have seen a few better players than those in the current England squad in the past 30 years and most of them didn't even managed to reach the semis..

And what about the approach from Southgate in this game, half of the first 11 and half of the reserves played in that..what??...why was that?!

If the game is not so important then start with all the reserves, but  if it's...what half of them doing on the field anyway..the difference between being 3-rd or 4-th!!, is that really matters..I guess it does for those who cares more...and in this particular case that was the Belgium side.

  •

nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to this team

Never said they should be ashamed, but they are good enough to win the World Cup and they know it. Who knows if they will have the chance to go for it again in 2022...

And what about the approach from Southgate in this game, half of the first 11 and half of the reserves played in that..what??...why was that?!

I think Southgate made a judgement regarding some players' morale, some of them might have been quite down and demotivated after having lost the semi-final.

  • Final coming up on Sunday, here are the odds at NetBet:

    France - Croatia

    1.90 - 3.25 - 4.70

    Good luck!

  • A harsh result for Croatia, they played very well until 3-1, but France were both lucky and clinical.

    France 4 - 2 Croatia

  • To be honest I think France were quite lucky in that game, Croatia clearly were the better team first half and still loosing 2-1 after it.

When you think of the France goals they were...an own goal which would happen quite rarely, penalty which the ref not spotted in real time (unlucky one itself) and two shots from distance which I think the keeper would (and should of) save 9 out of 10 times in training or maybe even 10 out of 10.

So if this is a destiny, luck, god, whatever you wish to call it was clearly on the French side today.

I'm not saying they would of lost that game without it but common..these were all ridiculous  acts of good fortune for them.

Probably the Croatians were a bit too tense or even maybe even a little self righteous after what they achieved in the tournament already which I think definitely could affect their pre-match mental condition and their coach probably didn't have enough experience and he made some mistakes with the substitutes too I believe but just the overall feeling was that France would going to win it no matter what the Croatians doing on the field.

It was just the Frenchmen turn and I can't explain why and how, maybe because of the lost final from two years back, but all was going their way this time.

  • France deserves to be the World Cup Winner ,they beat the stronger opponents. Croatia was lucky in Round of 16 and Quarter-final. I wouldn't say Croatia was the "clearly" better Team in Final, they have more Ball Possession yes but France was more effective and smarter.

  • I wouldn't say Croatia was the "clearly" better Team in Final

He didn't say that, they were the better team in the first half and that was quite obvious. The fact that France won that first half 2-1 is pure luck if you ask me.

  • Thanks for reading my post all the way Johnny, people usually like to drag something out of the context and then argue about it, us to it.

@Yautjazz - I'm not going to argue with you dude, it's obvious which team you supported on the final!

Maybe France had the more mature approach when it comes to the managers -I'm tend to agree with that, in the end Deshamps is a lot more experienced as a coach so in fact that's logical but that doesn't change the fact there's huge luck involved in all 4 of their goals, common I'd of save the last two!

England was in the same part of the scheme and ended up 4th with what should be a superior squad compared to the Croatians, so their place at the final was no fluck! They've deserved it.

It would of be curious for me to see how France would of perform at this championship without all the African(and the other foreign) names in their squad, or so called - a French citizens, I'd wouldn't be too optimistic about it.

If Deshamps should be called a genius of leading one of the finest squads at the finals to the world title(with a 'slight' piece of luck"in the final) then OK, he is!

I've been hearing and reading such arguments over and over since yesterday and to be honest I still can't understand why people are picking on this. Man, those guys have been born in France, it's only natural that they play for France. That's how the world goes, people move from one place to another, that's life. Bringing race into a discussion about sports is not going to do any good to anybody.

Well, in fact I don't think it's anything to do with the race Johnny,

In the 90's before the Bossman rulling all the European teams had the right of just 3 foreign players in their squads(or at the same time on the field-anyway) while in the French championship the African players were counted as a French citizens, I think the French government changed the laws exclusively for that reason..

..so I don't think I have a race problem..I think I have a problem with a nation trying to buy themselves a success while breaking the rules!

  • Man, those "African players" are people that were born in France, this has nothing to do with Bosman ruling or with selecting players that were born abroad to the national team. I really don't see why you think they have broken any rules or bought their success, they have not taken players away from other national teams.

  • I'm not arguing that most of them were born there or they shouldn't play for France Johnny.

Like I said already in the early 90's the French federation supported from the government stimulated as much as possible the African players to come and join the French sides giving them a statute of local players so there were 5 or more African players in almost every French side while during the time that was impossible in the other European countries and I'd not call that a natural emigration process.

I'm just guessing that some of today's France players with an African roots are an offspring’s of some of the families arrived from France in that exact period and maybe even close relatives to some with the then players.

And that was the state politics back then, if that's wrong or not and why the French have done that is of course debatable but I think that's the facts.

I think the connection with the Bossman ruling is obvious and no one wouldn't care too much if the French have done that after it was implemented.

And by the way I've never called an African players those which have an African roots in the current France team, I've said the African names (which is a fact!) I called the African players the players brought to France back in the 90's which is also a fact.

  • Your theory that today's players are the offspring of the football players that arrived in France in the 90s is ridiculous, it's not difficult to look up their biographies and families. In fact, I have done that and the only player that has a connection to football in his family is Kylian Mbappe because his father was a youth coach. Most of the current French internationals of African descent had poor parents that came to France in search of a better life, millions of people from Africa have done that.

I am not disputing that French clubs might have benefited from that policy in the 90s, (although they have not won the Champions League since 1993 and never won the UEFA Cup) but that has little or no impact on what the French national team is today.

Fun fact: Morocco have more players born in France in their national team than France have players born in the whole of Africa in their team. In fact, we had 50 players that were born in France at the 2018 World Cup and only 21 of them in the French team! :)

Yeah OK Johnny, if that the facts I wont argue with them...although I'm not sure most of these players back in the 90's came to Europe themselves, and also I'm not sure this was the politic of France just in sport and particularly in football.

That could of brought forth a waves of emigrants too but that's something we could only guess right now about it I believe.

Yeah but I don't think the success of the French sides at the European stage is the main thing here, we know that back then as of now by the way the Frech teams don't have the largest of budgets in Europe.

I heard about it too, that's just shows there's a lot of talent in France and a huge number of players who don't see a chance of representing their own country but eagerly want's an international experience at a national team level, I don't thinnk that's about the money and in fact they should be admired for it.
